The scheme: After working with several inital sketch models, the museum's best spatial expression became two intertwined elements:
1) An undulating circulatory ribbon which begins as a stair and swells to become the stepped gallery spaces.
2) An atrium starting in the building's core and then splitting, to allow maximum light penetration and optimize views onto Broadway and Madison Square Park.
