Cloud Reading: A Library of Immediacy

Competition entry for SUPERFRONT's 2012 Public Summer Competition. The competition's program, "a Library of Immediacy," calls for a temporary pop-up library to be built on Governor's Island Parade Ground . The architecture is to be cheaply-built, quick to erect and disassemble, and must promote the congregation of people around books.

Cloud Reading takes inspiration from the current trend of cloud computing and data storage, and tries to give it a built form. Boxes containing books, periodicals, and other reading material are hung from a large inclined plane representing "the cloud." The plane is structurally supported by two simple bookshelves with pull-out tables which can receive visitors who wish to sit and read.
